A few limestone reliefs and terracottas of this type exist. Bes waves a sword in one hand and in the other grasps two snakes. Considerable traces of paint remain; the characteristic lines on the god’s face and curls on his beard may have been added in paint. Bes was the ancient Egyptian god of childbirth, fertility, sexuality, humour, and war.

Ptolemaic Period, ca. 305-30 BC. Now in the Barracco Museum, Rome.
